[When one had seen as many battlefields as Lancer had, one tended to notice the more subtle indications of oncoming disaster. Like the tone of unease to the voices of those that had been in Mayfield longer than he had; those that knew the kinds of things the town was capable of.

[More than that, it felt as if there was a faint tension in the air. It was a feeling he knew very well; impending chaos. Of course, there wasn't really much any of them could do to prepare. How could they, when both enemy and timing were a complete mystery?]

[Ah, well. All he could really do was continue his usual training with the lance he'd gotten from Garviel. If one was to pass by, they'd come across the usual sight; a dark-haired former Servant focused entirely on his surroundings and the weapon in his hands.]
